The National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) was created in 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari to address the socio-economic challenges that had bedevilled the country.
By creating the National Social Investment Programme, the present Administration is providing tangible social protection programmes that continue to impact millions of Nigerians and lift them out of poverty on a sustained and continuous basis.
Since inception, the programme has impacted positively on the lives of the poor and vulnerable as millions of households have benefitted tremendously from NSIP interventions. The huge resources earmarked annually to cause positive changes in the lives of Nigerians through those programmes is indicative of a genuine commitment by a responsive government to meet the needs of its people.
Many who were hitherto classified as poor have been lifted out of poverty and now have means of livelihood, some are even employers of labour. Every one of these beneficiaries are not just figures but real people who for the first time have experienced the impact of governance and the dividends of democracy. This remains our motivation as we strive to ensure an all-inclusive social protection system.
The NSIP is contributing significantly to poverty reduction and the expansion of the programmes as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari will contribute significantly to the realisation of the National aspiration of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030

Why NSIP?
The NSIP is a project created to change the lives of millions of Nigerians living in extreme poverty, upgrade the standard of living and improve the economy of the country. The program achieves this by setting up interventions that work to reduce the rate of youth unemployment, eradicate malnutrition among children, improve school enrollment among children, and provide access to affordable credit for MSMEs. Through this, millions of Nigerians will have access to basic financial aid to meet some of their basic needs.
