The NHGSFP was created to address hunger and malnutrition among Nigerian children, enhance school enrolment, and increase agricultural production and economic growth.

How NHGSFP Makes a Difference
The NHGSFP is one of the most significant School Feeding Programs in the world based on the Government’s Commitment to Providing 1 free nutritious meal to pupils in primary 1-3 in public schools and pupils on the Alternate School Program (ASP).

The Programme is currently feeding over 53,000 schools and 9.9 million pupils in 35 States and FCT. Engaging over 127,000 Food Vendors (cooks) & 100 Aggregators in preparing a ₦70 per meal, per child in a 20 days feeding cycle.

Connecting smallholder farmers to an already existing market on the Home-grown Food chain on the program.

The programme is implemented through the State Governments and funded solely by the Federal Government. Bringing about economic development in the rural parts of the country.

The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme(NHGSFP) is aimed at delivering a cost-effective feeding programme with a specific focus on increasing school enrollment and reducing the Incidence of Malnutrition, especially among the poor. The program empowers cooks while supporting local agriculture through smallholder farmers thereby stimulating economic growth through the socio-economic value chain.

Who benefits from the Programme?

Pupils in public primary Schools (primary 1-3) are the primary beneficiaries of the programme. The cooks in rural areas benefit through the provision of employment. Smallholder farmers in rural areas also benefit from the existing market available to them.

The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme(NHGSFP) was created to enhance school enrolment, improve nutrition, health and stimulate the growth of our local economies by sourcing food items from local farmers which strengthens the Local Agricultural Economies, Creates Employment Opportunities with jobs in catering, processing, and farming.
